MPB Impact

Our sustainability strategy is guided by our purpose: To open up the world of visual storytelling in a way that’s good for people and the planet.

MPB is the largest global platform to buy, sell and trade in used photo and video gear. We are committed to making gear more accessible and affordable. We recirculate 570,000 cameras and lenses a year, extending the life and creative potential of visual storytelling gear.

Our sustainability commitments focus on our circularity, inclusion and diversity, and maintaining trust with our users and employees. These commitments apply to everything we do—from our platform, workplace and supply chain to storytelling partnerships and local community initiatives.

    Circular and renewable

Our business model—buying, selling and trading used gear—is circular. And, through our choice of packaging, furniture and equipment, we are applying circular principles in our operations. We now purchase renewable electricity certificates matching 100% of electricity usage in our buildings. Our goal is to reach net zero carbon for our buildings (by phasing out natural gas) and data centres by 2030 and for our courier services by 2035.

    Inclusive and diverse

As a business, we take a proactive approach to inclusive recruitment and support our employees to fulfil their potential with training and development. And, through our partnerships, marketing and procurement, we promote inclusive visual storytelling and an inclusive circular economy. Plus, the MPB platform enables anyone to access affordable photo and video gear.

We are committed to providing superior customer experience, accurate pricing and market-leading gear expertise, underpinned by robust data security and ethical business and marketing practices. Our sustainability commitments are incorporated into our business policies, practices and governance.

MPB achieves ‘A-’ rating from Circulytics

MPB achieved an overall ‘A-’ rating in our 2022 and 2023 Circulytics annual assessments, a circular economy performance measurement tool created by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. “We are committed to driving circular thinking and behaviour so that simply buying new is no longer the default option,” says Rachel Thompson, Head of Sustainability at MPB Brighton.
